Chairman of the Hoi An city People's Committee (Quang Nam province) Nguyen Van Son has recently welcomed a delegation from Port Hedland (Australia) led by Mayor Peter Carter.

At the meeting, Chairman Son briefly informed his guests of the Hoi An tourism development, the number of Australian tourists to Hoi An. At the same time, he called for investment from Australia in the city.

Ms. Pham Thi Ngoc Dung - Deputy Head of the Department of Culture and Information of Hoi An city shared that Australia is among the top ten countries with the highest amount of tourists visiting Quang Nam. Quang Nam emerges as a favorite destination of Australian tourists.

In 2019, Hoi An welcomed 1.56 million international tourist arrivals including 110,600 Australian ones. In the first 10 months of 2023, there were 84,000 visitors from Australia coming to Hoi An.

Especially, the older and retired people from Western Australia are increasingly choosing Hoi An for their long-term trips and stays.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Son, the meeting with the delegation from Port Hedland is an opportunity for Hoi An to showcase its typical culture and world heritage recognised by UNESCO, aiming to attract more tourists and investors from Australia including Port Hedland to Hoi An.
